Finance Manager, Law Firm


Job Description:


Statutory and Management Reporting

·       Responsible for all aspects of month / year end closing

·       Oversee the accounting transactions are accurate

·       Preparing various financial reports on a timely basis in compliance with local statutory requirements

·       Preparing weekly / monthly reports and analysis for review by management

·       Act as key contact point with Directors on Financial Management by providing stats to Directors and attend Directors meetings to provide update on financials & performance.

·       Managing annual audit process and tax filing

·       Review schedules as required by auditors and tax agents and filing of quarterly GST.


Planning and Budgeting

·       Preparing the annual budget and quarterly forecasts


Working Capital Management/Credit Control

·       Driving and improving working capital management

·       Ensuring that invoices to clients are billed and paid timely. This will include monthly review meetings with partners to ensure bills are issued on a regular basis and reminders and calls are made to clients for invoices which are outstanding

·       Target to reduce AR & WIP DSO


Client’s Account

·       Ensure all clients Monies are managed in accordance with SRA & Law Society regulations.

·       Managing the receipt into and payment from client’s accounts


General Accounting

·       Reviewing payments to third parties

·       Ensuring that intercompany settlements are made

·       Preparing cash flow forecast and ensuring that all office bank accounts are in credit on a daily basis, completing any necessary transfers between office bank accounts or liaising with London

·       Prepare various reconciliation (balance sheet, cash advance, credit card and etc.)

·       Reviewing bank reconciliation


Leadership and Managing Accounts Team

·       Reviewing procedures and processes to improve efficiency of the department

·       Improving and automating processes within the team

·       Developing team members



·       Managing key relationship with banks, auditors, tax agents, corporate secretarial and other

relevant external providers

·       Providing supervision, cover and assistance to team members in all areas of accounting duties

including billing, credit control and reporting

·       Working in conjunction with the Regional Finance Lead to instil the best practice financial


·       Handling various ad hoc queries and projects

·       Assisting and adapting to initiatives from firmwide change programme

·       Providing backup support to other Finance team members

·       Assisting with ad-hoc requests and queries from Partners, Fee earners and management team


·       At least 7 years working experience with at least 3-4 years handling full sets of accounts

·       Qualified accountant or equivalent.

·       Working experience in a law firm would be an advantage

·       Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) with a polite and

professional approach

·       Excellent organization skills, with the ability to multi-task in order to meet deadline.

·       Strong sense of integrity and discretion

·       Excellent financial analysis

·       Proactive manner

·       Proficient in Microsoft Office packages including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook

·       Robustness and composure under pressure
